History of Bosnian
Bosnian is a South Slavic language that developed distinct features during Ottoman rule (1463-1878). It absorbed Turkish, Arabic, and Persian vocabulary, especially in areas like food, administration, and religion. After Yugoslav dissolution and the 1990s war, Bosnian was standardized as distinct from Croatian and Serbian, though they remain mutually intelligible.
